WIW: my current FFBO skirt

I realized I'd worn this outfit - or close to it - two or three times in as many weeks. That's more repeating than I usually do, but it's both comfortable and flattering. It's a bit basic - I have a wrap sweater that adds a bit more dimension - but the weather's been warm again so a tee is just about right.

Uniqlo tee, Zara skirt, Tsubo boots. And new Hue tights a size bigger than the size chart suggests - infinitely better! All purchased new this season, come to think of it - that's a big shift for me.

How do you feel about the skirt length? It's on the short side. Funny - I always err in the other direction, wearing skirts that look too long on my short legs and thus frumpier than expected. I like this one, and I'm comfortable with the length for work. What do you think? (Mid-30s lab scientist; supervising a grad student but not teaching.)

(The photo angle is odd and the mirror might be one of those slender-izing ones in a fitting room so it's hard to judge.)

If owned this skirt I think it would be on high rotation so I understand why this is a great fall back piece for you.  Lov ethe skirt and the length is fine, particularly with the opaque tights.  I think you look great.

Sadly, it pills like crazy, so I'm not sure it'll last more than this season. I should remember to attack it with my sweater comb.

Where is it from?  I think I saw something so similar on the HL website a couple of days ago!!!

I think the length of the skirt is absolutely fine with opaque hose. It would probably be fine on you without, as well, but with, there is no question at all. How are you liking those boots?

Since I like to wear this look a lot for casual outfits (and I'm early 40's) I tell myself that dark opaque leggings make short skirts okay, especially with flat boots and drapey/non revealing tops.   Looks good on you.

Well, I think you look terrific.

I think the skirt looks fine with the opaque leggings. Nice boots!

You look terrific, and I can see why it is a FFBO. I concur with the others. With the opaque tights, and given you are not teaching, I think the length works.

Perhaps you can find a similar skirt next season in a better fabrication now that you know it'll be a workhorse.

I think its a good idea for you to wear skirts in different lengths for variety.  Why not?

The skirt is from Zara. It's a cotton/wool blend. Sadly it sold out quickly.

It's a lot like some Rick Owens skirts (in fact, I had a thrifted R.O. skirt that was way too big, and I sold it to when I bought this one.) And yes, I saw that same Helmut Lang skirt and thought of this one!

Perfect functional with personality ffbo. Pilling problem is very annoying.

You look fabulous! No question about length, certainly not, with tights and boots. Even if you didn't have the legs for this -- and you do. Interesting skirt too, totally worth repeating as often as possible.

    Love this.

Love the skirt! It's not too short. I think it looks very good on you.

What a great little skirt, I can see why it's a favorite. You look great :)

I saw the same skirt on zara website today and was drooling over it :D. I think its a beautiful skirt and it works well with your outfit here. The tall boots are just the perfect addition.

Greyscale this looks really fab.  I wear a lot of short skirts or tunics too but always as you do with really opaque black tights for leggings.  Especially with boots it makes it hard to even notice where things end.  It also really elongates your legs.  Very flattering!!  Sorry to hear the skirt is not holding up well. HL definitely makes similiar and I am pretty sure Alexander Wang has had a skirt like that out too.  But fantastic workhorse!

I think you look fine and of courses muse ca wear short skirts.
But, I always think of the sit test, and how we always show photos standing. . This length comes up pretty high if you sit, though a drapey factor might help. Sure, with tights you can't SEE anything but still.
So do you have to keep tugging it down if you sit, or does it always stay put, or do you feel the tights do the work? If tugging, then this would bring to mind the post on "fussy" factors.
I also understand the lab work environment might be more laid- back.
I know I'm intentionally giving a different point of view , which is more that of how I perceive the message of the short skirt for younger women at work and that to me it is different from other ways to be " work casual" .So , not intended as a censor, but food for thought.

I love this skirt! Maybe I can make something like this work for me with tights. I am always drawn to this look but then can never seem to make it work.

That is a great skirt! I am sad to hear it is pilling so quickly :( To unfrumped's points when I worked in the lab I was standing all the time so the sit test wasnt a factor in hem lengths (although I always wore pants at that job in case I had to pull on a jumpsuit to go into a clean room). I really like this and can see why it has become a FFBO!
