WIW: basic stripes

This is a pretty standard outfit for me: black skinnies, a top, and my new-to-me jean jacket. The jacket is a men's jacket and intentionally oversized, but I'm not sure it really works. I threw out all the side-angle photos because I looked totally pregnant in it. I should have saved one to post for your opinions. It's almost as if men's clothes aren't cut to accommodate breasts! ;-)

At any rate, it was just $13 so if it's not a winner on me, I'll give it to my boyfriend.

I am wearing the problematic Penpal boots, now with insoles, and they feel fine.

WIW on a surprise warm day

After yesterday's huge windstorm, the weather cleared and it's back in the 70s with bright sun again. Strange. So my planned outfit was too warm, and I pulled out this great high/low Helmut Lang top that is wool and silk and is perfect for the weather. I don't wear much because it seemed like a dress-up item when I got it, but now that I put this outfit together I realize it works well in a lot of casual contexts too.

Three realizations today:

1. I really am avoiding legging jeans subconsciously. This top fit my "silk tunic and leggings" uniform a year ago, and so I'm shocked that it works so well with cropped boyfriend jeans. I need a serious revamp of my jeans wardrobe.

3. These boots hurt. I'm heartbroken. They were expensive and I basically can't wear them. I changed later into oxfords. I guess I should sell them. But, I think I figured out what (expensive) mistake I keep making in shoe sizing. I need to make sure the ball of my foot is in the right place.

3. I desperately need a crash course in accessorizing. I even forgot to put on my little silver necklace that I wear every day.

I think this introspective, blah clothing mood is just because of insomnia and delayed coffee this morning. Despite all that I do really like today's outfit.

First rain! WIW and perfect boot length question

I'm so excited that it's the first real rain of the year here in SF. Of course, it imposes some constraints on our clothing, but it was also a chance to break out my favorite fedora! My boyfriend got it for me at Rag & Bone a few years ago but I rarely feel bold enough to wear it. Rain is the perfect excuse.

Too bad my hair is dripping wet in these photos; the hat looks much better with my hair dry and curly like it is now, but I was in a rush to get out the door and I never blow-dry it.

Also, my lovely Madewell tall boots seem to be entirely wrong on my legs. I snatched them up when they somehow rang up at $70 instead of $300, but they are certainly too tall and big around the top for my legs. The last photo shows one boot and one bare leg for comparison. The question is, should I keep them to wear over jeans, should I have my excellent cobbler shorten them, or should I sell them and buy slightly shorter, zippered boots instead?

I finally found the right place for photos: inside my roommate's empty closet! It has a mirror and the only south-facing window in the house.

WIW: new Theyskens biker jacket!

My first real WIWs!

First, I found a biker jacket! I returned both the Theory options and instead bought a Theyskens Theory jacket off ebay. It's less classic and masculine than I'd been looking for, but I fell in love with it. It fits almost like a blazer and it has an interesting waist line. I'm wearing it with my new boyfriend jeans (AG, thrifted) and my favorite LD Tuttle shoes that I'm trying to wear more often. I realize the turtleneck makes it hard to see the jacket but I'm excited that it's finally cold enough for turtlenecks. Oh, and my hair is soaking wet - it's usually a lot poofier and brighter!

Second, from a few days earlier, a solution to a funny clothing situation: I was down at my old apartment for a few days to do the final cleaning and pack up my last few items. I forgot to bring a change of clothes, but I'd just picked up a pile of drycleaning down there, so this was what came out of the drycleaning pile. Theory shorts (made from a pair of dress slacks), BR shirt (I don't love the tied front but it's sort of interesting), and the only shoes I had, my Madewell combat boots that I wear most days.

And a question: the Theyskens jacket was described as "new without tags" on ebay (always a risk) but I discovered that it was a second / reject / overstock / whatever when I received it. The label is marked through with a black line (not mentioned in the post), there's a big but unnoticeable rip in the sleeve lining, one of the leather seams has a tiny imperceptible tear, and a snap is slightly broken. I want to keep it regardless, but should I ask the seller (a small volume individual seller) for a partial refund or discount? I've never bought clothing on ebay before.
