WIW: back to blazers

Hi all!

My dressing has been uninspired recently. Tshirts and jeans every day. Plus, I went up a size so it's thrown off my sense of what looks good, and I've had to replace a lot of jeans.

I'm finally feeling back on top of my wardrobe! Last night I went out for dinner, and I realized I could dress up my jeans and tee with my favorite blazer. I don't know why I haven't worn blazers at all this past year, but I hereby declare I'm bringing them back. This one is my favorite, from Theyskens Theory. And my boots added a bit of sparkle, too (the leather in the back is subtly sparkly). I felt great.

I also went to my favorite consignment store yesterday and found two maybe-winners. I bought them, but I'm not 100% sure they'll be workhorses.

1. Rag & Bone tweed wool shorts. They hit just below my knee. At first I thought I'd hem them, but from the photos, I actually prefer the longer length (photo 3) instead of rolled (photo 4). I do wish they were cut wider, more like culottes. I think they might have started life as full-length trousers.

2. Dries van Noten tall boots. Beautiful, beautiful soft leather. Incredible. And not too tall on me. They gape a bit around the top, and scrunch too much at the ankle, but it's still better than any other tall boots I've ever tried. For the low price, I decided to just go for it. The toe / foot shape looks a bit dated but I think it's ok.

What do you think? Are these gold medals or just fun things to have in the closet? Do the shorts work with the boots (photos 8&9) or would I need longer, looser culottes for that look?

Good to see you Greyscale:)  The blazer outfit looks great.  I am so looking forward to the cooler weather to start wearing mine:)

I love the shorts and I vote keep them at the length they are, don't shorten. I think the boots work just fine with that length.

The boots looks so gorgeous and you can see how soft the leather is just from the photo.  I did return boots that fitted like this, particularly the slouch as the ankle.. but I was really wanting a much sleeker boot.  It's up to you and if you think you are happy and comfortable with that amount of slouch:)

Love the jacket (of course), love the shorts and would leave the length, like the boots but right now will say they are fun things to have, but might be elevated when you pair them with culottes!

They're definitely slouchier than ideal. But they're not returnable, and I decided I was ok with it before I bought them. I wonder if wearing thick knee socks in the boots would help keep them up.

I don't usually have a problem with slouchy boots because my calves are so large! But I do have a problem with slouchy ankles once I find a boot that fits my calves, so I will wear socks and fold them down around my ankles to take up the extra slouch.  This helps take up the extra room and keeps the leather from rubbing my ankles.

The blazer looks really good GS and I like the boots too. The leather does indeed look beautiful quality. Love the shorts and I agree with the others, that you should leave the length just as they are; plus they look good with the boots. Nice purchases!

I love everything as it looks in the pics. Very defined and consonant.

I'm a big fan of the shorts! And I also love gray and black.

I am traveling and wish that I had brought a blazer. i like everything you are showing us and would keep the shorts at the longer length. Thinking of Angie's post this morning, I wonder how the shorts would look with leggings or tights under them.

More love for the blazer :) I'd keep the shorts longer too.

That blazer really does elevate your jeans and tee into a lovely smart casual look - very nice.  I like the tweed shorts, too, and think you will be able to have some fun with those.  I agree that they should be left at their present length, and that they look better unrolled.  I'm glad the boots have met with approval here as I have some very similar which I hope to be wearing for some time yet!

The shorts are amazing and I actually like them longer.
    The boots are also keepers.

I love the shorts! The length & shape reminds me of knickerboxers. :DDD The boots look good to me, but I'm not fussy about boot gap. And I'm glad you feel in control of your closet again; it's good to see you back. :)
