Tomboy casual: the cape bomber

A few months ago I scored a cool DKNY bomber with cape sleeves. I love the idea and the wool suiting fabric but I kept not wearing it. Angie's post last week inspired me to finally cut the tags.

If it were warmer I'd have worn sandals as in her outfit idea. I did cuff my jeans at least!

I like it though I feel super self conscious about the "weird" sleeves. I can wear them more conventionally but it turns out I hate feeling the tight, warm cuffs on my wrists. When I got the sleeves shortened I should have gone with my gut and asked the tailor to make a self-fabric gathered cuff. I wonder if I can find matching fabric and do it myself?

What a neat jacket! I like the outfit on you, too. It would be hard to match the fabric, I'm afraid. There are so many blacks out there, when you start to look at fabrics. Then there's the question of weight and weave.  Maybe you could improvise a slit in the sleeve cuffs to make them more comfortable?

The look is fantastic. I defer to Sharan for tailoring advice for obvious reasons.

Your students probably admire this bomber very much. Would long leather/ leatherish gloves work with the jacket and give you more warmth? Maybe fingerless?

I like the super hero effect. Looks FAB.

I really like it ... hope your weather cooperates. I was just looking at a "cape effect" dress somewhere and thinking how cool that would be.

    Very cool!
If you still want cuffs, why worry about the match? You could get a contrasting fabric, even black with a "shiny" finish that would complement the fabric in your superhero cape.

I was gonna say it but Angie beat me to it.  You are my version of what a superhero looks like.  Very lovely I wish I could find something like that.  I've seen the style but have not found one to suit me yet.

Aww thanks for the comments! It's not getting a lot of wear but I like it. I'll try to think of it as my superhero outfit. Could be useful on days when I need a boost. I find that I almost always wear it like a cape, so I wonder why I bothered paying to have the sleeves shortened! But that's ok -- more business for my tailor.
