Color quest: pastel neon lime

Last year I added some pastel pink and lilac to my closet, as an accent against black denim.

This year, I was captivated by the neon lime green trend. Street style blogs have lots of bright neon accents. The color I'm thinking of is somewhere between yellow and green, and highlighter-bright. I especially like the look I've seen of a neon turtleneck peeking out under a black shirt.

The problem is, I dislike how that neon color looks on me, especially near my face. After trying several options, I've realized that I should shift towards a more pastel interpretation, just like the pink and lilac. And, like those other pastels, it should be on the cooler side. No hint of chartreuse. The bolder colors are mostly found as synthetics (dye chemistry, I imagine), but I'd prefer cotton and it should be fine for this toned-down option.

Now I'm having trouble finding tops in this color. I did find one perfect option... a $300 hoodie by Acne. So that's out of the question. But I'd love to find a cotton turtleneck or a hoodie in this color. If you happen to find something that's exactly this color, feel free to share!

Part of me finds it hilarious that I've added so much pastel to my wardrobe after decades of black. But I love the contrast, and it really is better on me than bright colors!

Lovely colour! Only thing is... is Greyscale an appropriate moniker any more, you colour woman you ?!

Ha! I just posted my problem with neon green on Sals thread about clothes that won't wear out!

Just a random thought, could you self dye white cotton or linen to this colour?

I am not good with US shopping but can see where you are going.  A belt could be another way of adding some in...

It’s a lovely colour! I think it could be a colour that a store like Cos could adopt maybe. Boden did shorts last year in a stronger version of this colour. Eyes peeled anyway!

Jane, you reminded me that spring merchandise hasn’t really hit stores yet and I bet there will be more in this color.

I love it. It’s a little bit like Angie’s sour brights.

That is a great hoodie, such a shame it is so expensive, I would have a hard time paying that much for a hoodie, no matter how beautiful. I checked out Yoox which is often good for things like this - but unfortunately whilst there were some items that were close, they were not exactly right - this is what I found that was of a similar style:

Photo 1 - Here is a sleeveless hoodie, mint rather than lime US$69

Photo 2 - Another wrong colour - but similar styling to your one

Photo 3 - This is great, but is true acid green, brighter than you want

I had a top exactly that color in the 90s, and liked it. If you don't find more of the color, I'm sure Dharma Trading Co has dyes like that-and dozens of cotton dyeables :)

This colour works for me too.  I have some workout gear in this pale neon lime and love it.  Same with pinks and oranges in this  level of colour saturation . Check Aritizia - they are introducing their Spring line right now - lots of interesting colours.  Not sure if this green is there, but might be worth a look.

Definitely keep an eye on spring releases. I like the idea of accessories -- belts, bags?

Pure Collection usually has some sweaters and scarves in this sort of colour in their spring collection, but this year their greens seem to be skewing either too mint or too chartreuse for what you're looking for. They do have a lot of green right now: https://www.us.purecollection......ers/+green

The striped sweater I got from Pure a couple years ago has pale lime stripes.

For some reason, I'm seeing a lot of this colour in knitwear. Lisa Todd has a bunch of sweaters and stuff with highlighter green and yellow accents: https://www.lisatoddnow.com/collections/all

The closest I can find is this one:

    Thanks for all the ideas!

Elpgal - the model on that page has my first name! It’s a sign.

Lisa P - Aritzia is a great idea. This does seem like their sort of color. I’ll keep an eye out.

Dyeing is an interesting idea. I’d have to play around with shades and intensity and that seems intimidating. I have all my dyeing supplies finally to redye my blacks but I haven’t made time to actually do it.

    this?

  • Greyscale replied 5 years ago

Lisa P, I can’t believe it! I just checked my store emails (I get so many) and this morning’s Aritzia email is full of neon sweatshirts including the perfect green!! What funny timing! I’ll add a find when I’m on my computer.

    Great!

ASOS looks like they have a few pieces too.

  • Greyscale replied 5 years ago

I don't know why I'm such a prima donna about fabric texture, but it turns out the Aritzia hoodie has soft polyester fleece inside and I can't stand the feel of that on my skin, as strange as that sounds. Back to the drawing board. :( Still not gonna pay $300 for the all-cotton Acne version, though!

I see the appeal! Spring with a twist.

I was in Loft today and there was a large photo poster on the wall featuring this color.

Check Eileen Fisher sale items, although they not be summery enough. I also would like to add some items in this color.

  • annagybe replied 5 years ago

not a hoodie, but 1/10 this price

  • lisa replied 5 years ago

Hi! I am brand spanking new to the forum, but have to say that I love that ASOS sweater :)

  • Angie replied 5 years ago

I LOVE this colour too. Looks great on you.

Fun, exciting and lovely colour with your hair!

A mini triumph: Baggu's spring collection includes a perfect pastel neon lime shopping bag. I snapped one up right away. I've been using Baggu mini bags to carry my sweater, lunch, etc each day (my purse is tiny). So this is a nice way to add an accent color - I just wish the fabric were a bit thicker and more opaque.

Happy little bag! I like to keep little bags like that in my purse so clerks don't foist plastic bags on me!

I wasn't able to snap a picture through the bus window, but as we passed by, I noticed that Bershka's windows are all decked out in a color similar to this. I'm not sure if the color was pastel enough, but you might want to check.

Also, have you thought of wearing your colors together? Not as a spring bouquet, but more like a neon yellow/green racing stripe on something lilac.

ETA went to their website & snapped a bunch of screenshots. There were quite a few colors very close to yours, including others that were more yellow than these. I assume you'd have to hold them in your hands to see how they really look. https://www.bershka.com/de/en/.....95501.html

I haven’t read replies, so might be duplicating but Free People has a fair smattering of tops in this shade or shades very close.

Greyscale, there's this, at Loft of all places (not at all what I think of as carrying your style but no retail stone unturned, etc.):
