Buttoned down boy (wiw)

A few people posted about button down (button up...) shirts and I thought I'd wear one today. This is a men's flannel shirt from Uniqlo, XS. It may not be to everyone's taste but I love the fit, though I have to roll the sleeves. It has room for my wide shoulders. My arms can move freely. And it doesn't puff out in front as much as the women's "boyfriend" shirts I own. So I guess the best way for me to get the stolen-from-the-boys effect is to do that, literally. (The shirt also fits my guy perfectly.)

By the way, for the fastidious wordsmiths, this one is literally a button down (the collar buttons) but regardless, I decided ages ago that I like the common usage of "button down" to mean a shirt with buttons.

I only wish my arms were longer so I could wear men's shirts with sleeves unrolled!

Super fit! I love this shirt on you. It looks very expensive and cool. I like how your hair up adds a feminine vibe, too.

Nice. I like the fit too. Narrow in all the right places.

What a great look---!  And, interesting about "button down" v. "button up".

I wouldn't have know it was a man's shirt instead of a woman's. You look hip and streamlined.
Can the cuff be moved up so you would have the option of wearing it either way? I don't know about alterations.

It must have a little drape if it's flannel. It looks quite good for you. I have the wide shoulders issue too, and anything that falls in to the "crisp" shirt category is unlikely to please me.

Fabulous, I love that you've left the neck unbuttoned, it frames your face and gorgeous hair!

I wouldn't have guessed the shirt is flannel, or that a flannel shirt could be so streamlined!  Looks great on you.  If you have a Nordstrom card and you buy a shirt there, you can use alteration points to get the sleeves shortened -- about $20 worth.  At least online, they tell you the cut of the shirt so you don't waste your time on a shirt that's not cut slim enough.

wow, the fit of that shirt on you is sublime!

My Uniqlo XS women's flannel shirt is a little tight across the hips if fully buttoned (so I usually just leave the bottom button undone), so I doubt I'd be able to do this with the men's, but it works really well on you!

Crazyone, this one juuuuust barely fits over my hips. So yeah, I think it would be a tight fit on people with a more hourglass shape than my inverted triangle. I don't really have a guy shape but my shoulder proportions and torso:height ratio are more like guys than girls.

UmmLila and DonnaF, it's a very light flannel. So yes, it does drape more than crisp poplin, and it doesn't feel bulky.

That is a nice shirt and fits you well. I love the all in black look.

I like the sleeves rolled up. Sometimes I just fold back the buttoned cuffs. (DH retired and now his dress shirts are mine, all mine - imagine the gleeful laugh as I hug them all to myself.)
Perhaps you could put on some bangles or a wide cuff or a chunky bracelet or a watch so your lower arms don't feel so bare.
Best wishes for more great looks like this one.

I just say "shirt" actually, I don't understand what Americans mean by shirt if it's not a "button down" ?
    Anyway.
I love the fit, it's perfect on you, the pocket is well placed, the body is fitted, the hem a bit curved...doesn't look oversized at all.
But mostly I love the collar, how it kind of stands up and widens, it looks so good with your long neck.

Flannel you say? Looks fantastic. I wonder if it works so well because of the Japanese sizing base. I know Uniqlo had some sizing kinks to work out because us Americans are so giganto...

Looks great on you, and I like the way you popped the collar. And very interesting that there are clothing items the two of you can share.  I'd love to see you post some how he wore it/how she wore it threads!
